Family-owned lift business unveils governance changes to drive growth and reassure long-term commitment.
Stannah, the UK’s largest wholly family-owned lift business and a global leader in home accessibility, today announced a major evolution in its governance and leadership structure. This milestone marks the beginning of a new era for the company, as the sixth generation of the Stannah family steps forward to help shape its future.
This year has seen many remarkable milestones reached within the Stannah business, including celebrating 50 years of stairlift manufacturing and distribution, surpassing one million stairlifts installed worldwide, and reaching £100 million in revenues for its Lifts Distribution and Service division. Alongside this, the company’s newest venture, Uplifts, has become its fastest-growing business unit, a testament to Stannah’s ability to innovate and adapt.
This transition marks the start of another generational shift for Stannah, as Sam Stannah, the eldest of the sixth generation, and CEO of Uplifts, joins the newly formed Group Executive Board alongside Alastair Stannah, Nick Stannah, and Debi Coveney (Group CFO). The Executive Board will support newly appointed CEOs by providing clear strategic leadership, a unifying vision across the entire Group and ensuring accountability for performance and growth.
Sam Stannah said: “I’m proud to be part of this next chapter for Stannah. My grandad and the fourth generation laid the foundations for the incredible business we have today, and their vision inspires me every day. Our family has always believed in building for the long term, and this new governance model ensures we can continue to innovate while staying true to those values.”
The governance changes include the creation of a Group Governance Board, comprising senior family members, to provide oversight and ensure alignment with Stannah’s values and long-term vision. Meanwhile, the Executive Board will work closely with newly-appointed CEOs to deliver operational excellence:
• Marco Luna, currently Chief Commercial Officer of Home Accessibility, will become CEO of Home Accessibility.
• Archie Hungwe, currently Chief Operating Officer of Lifts Distribution and Service, will become CEO of that division.
These appointments reflect Stannah’s commitment to combining family stewardship with executive leadership, ensuring each division has the focus and autonomy needed to thrive.
Alastair Stannah, speaking on behalf of the family, said: “This is a positive step forward for Stannah. By introducing a clearer governance structure and empowering dedicated CEOs, we are strengthening the business for the future. The Stannah family remains fully committed to leading and guiding the company, we’re not going anywhere. Our values, our vision, and our long-term approach will continue to shape every decision we make.”
With 18 members of the sixth generation, aged 12 to 32, Stannah remains committed to nurturing future leaders while preserving the family values that have guided the business for over 150 years.
