Shaw Security has recently completed the installation of two bespoke steel staircases at a school in Abbey Wood, London, replacing the original timber staircases which had deteriorated significantly and were becoming unsafe.

The project involved the careful removal of the existing timber structures, followed by the manufacture and installation of new steel staircases designed to provide a stronger, safer and much longer-lasting solution for the school.

Each staircase incorporates:

• Robust steel construction designed for long-term use
• Steel balustrades and handrails
• Galvanised steel treads for improved durability and slip resistance
• Bespoke fabrication to suit the existing building and access requirements
• A hard-wearing finish suitable for a busy school environment

The completed installations provide a significant improvement in both safety and expected service life compared with the timber staircases they replaced, while also giving the building a clean and robust architectural finish.

Working within an operational school environment also required careful coordination to ensure the replacement works could be completed efficiently and with minimal disruption.
