stoneCIRCLE supplies Normandy Campaign Memorial

stoneCIRCLE supplies Normandy Campaign Memorial

stoneCIRCLE was commissioned to supply, letter and install the Normandy Campaign Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. The memorial was made to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and was unveiled by HRH the Duke of Gloucester during a service of dedication attended by around 500 veterans and invited guests.

Ian Stewart CM, designed the new 30 feet long memorial, the curves of which are based on the geological undulations of the Normandy coastline as seen from offshore. He chose granite as the material to represent the severity of the task facing the invasion force.

The blocks of polished Chinese granite had to be moved into place using a 35 tonne crane as the front block weighs around 2.5 tonnes and the back 9” thick solid granite curved section about 5 tonnes.
