A stunning walkway canopy takes centre stage at Iffley Academy in Oxford.

The L-shaped canopy links a new school building with existing facilities under a project led by contractor Kier.

The new academy, for pupils up to the age of 18 with complex special educational needs, includes a ‘training flat’ to aid the development of life skills and a pupil-run café.

Working with Kier and architect Carissa Andrew-Smith, Broxap designers were able to recreate intricate petal shapes within the roof of the new walkway which was then clad in calming violet PETG sourced by our purchasing team.

The walkway canopy was manufactured at our North Staffordshire workshop and was among the final flourishes put in place at the school. Broxap's installation teams collaborated with Iffley Academy and contract partners to ensure safe working throughout the project.

The walkway, based on a freestanding Luton symmetric canopy, included guttering and rainwater pipe and was part of a £43,500 order.

New Sheffield Cycle Shelters, with galvanised cycle racks, were also provided offering secure parking for up to a total of 36 bikes.

The construction scheme at Iffley Academy created fit-for-purpose spaces for the addition of vocational teaching in subjects including animal care and horticulture.

The cruciform shape of the building separated four courtyards – the entrance, outside teaching space, a private space and a secure area for therapy dogs.

Three Perimeter Beam Shade Sails was also designed, manufactured and installed by Broxap Street Furniture, providing cover in the courtyards.

The shade sails were incorporated into these areas to maximise their use, providing a comfortable and safe learning zone even in very warm weather.

Each structure complemented the grey and turquoise cladding of the new building.

Broxap’s special projects team is experienced in working with contractors on school transformation projects across the UK.

Strict site operating procedures were observed throughout the scheme for the safety of students and staff.
