MEP Hire are supporting Overbury to deliver on its flagship project in Canary Wharf, by providing access to its complete hire fleet from an on-site hire centre. Overbury, the fit out specialist, are currently heading-up one of the largest re-fit projects in Europe at Canary Wharf in London.
The transformation of the Tower, which stands at 42 stories, will create a “workplace for the future” incorporating the latest technology and the highest standards of environmental design. The revamped tower will contain flexible work and collaboration spaces alongside well-being zones for employees. The project is expected to be completed by 2025.
MEP Hire began working with Overbury to develop an on-site hire centre concept back in December 2022 with the aim of providing access to the safest, most innovative equipment, quickly and conveniently. The main driver being that the site had just one loading bay and restricted transport access, therefore getting the huge amount of equipment needed on site for the re-fit would be problematic.
As one of the UK’s leading names in access solutions and tool hire and with one of the largest fleets nationally, MEP Hire was best placed to ensure that its on-site centre would deliver against the vast quantities of work being undertaken on this project by around 1,000 contracting staff.
MEP Hire’s Sales Director for London, Neil Collier commented, “By making our full range of hire equipment available on site for this absolutely huge project, MEP Hire are able to supply workers with the equipment they need, when they need it – cutting out the need to arrange and book delivery slots. Not only will this innovative idea save time and improve efficiency, it will ultimately help to reduce the carbon footprint on this project as well.”
As Overbury’s exclusive partner on this project, the on-site hire centre stocks over 500 access and tool hire solutions. But, MEP Hire’s support does not stop there. A team of dedicated experts are on-hand daily to answer any queries site workers may have, as well as delivering tool familiarisation and access to training.
Ryan Henry, Health & Safety Lead at Overbury commented, “‘Having MEP Hire on-site allows us to demonstrate our commitment to providing the right equipment and training to support our subcontractors. It also allows us to utilise technology and innovation, which helps us to become more efficient in the way we work, as well as supporting us to meet our wider CSR objectives.”
The on-site hire centre is managed day-to-day by Steve Shilton, Major Projects
Business Development Manager and Stephen Pratt, On-site Manager at MEP Hire.
Dave Foley, Senior Construction Manager at Overbury added, “Having an MEP Hire centre on-site is key to ensuring that we are able to deliver against our plan for this project. Instead of requesting plant equipment and waiting for delivery, we are able to get equipment to the relevant area in real-time that same day!”
