SureSet bridging the gap at Bury College Millennium Centre

SureSet bridging the gap at Bury College Millennium Centre

Natural aggregate from SureSet were specified for the footbridge of Bury College, a further education college.

Bury College provides qualifications for school leavers pursuing A Levels, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and a range of courses for adults.

SureSet were chosen to provide a quotation and guidance to resurface an entry footbridge to the colleges Millennium centre. The main footpath had previously been asphalted, but careful consideration was required to ensure any potential movement on the bridge would not result in reflective damage to the Resin bound paving, and also that the 10 light pillars and various surface materials surrounding the rotating entrance doors were appropriately prepared to protect the SureSet surfacing.

SureSet initially quoted for a few different build up options and came up with the best option to meet the project brief and budgets whilst ensuring all parties were happy that the final product would deliver the desired finish and be suitable for the application.

The final specification resulted in 18mm of 6mm Tuscan Barley Beach natural aggregate along with Dural colour matched movement joints and matching Dural Flexible edging profiles and our Crack Reduction Membrane (CRM) product for the area in front of the rotating doors.

The installation was completed whilst the building was closed and the students were not using the footbridge. The edging was installed by our own installation team and the following day the SureSet was installed by our sub contractor Resinators. The Tuscan Barley Beach aggregate was chosen to provide a clean seamless finish that would complement the industrial metal hand rails and tinted glass of the building entrance as well as blending into the red bricks of the rest of the building.
