Sustainable Cast Iron Drainage Systems

Sustainable Cast Iron Drainage Systems

Did you know buildings and construction make up around 40% of all carbon emissions?

At PAM Building, they are committed to the circular economy and improving the sustainability of their operations to lessen their impact on the environment. At their Telford plant, they have reduced their CO2 consumption from 8,500 tonnes to under 1,000 in just 10 years and have been running on certified green electricity since 2015 – with no waste to landfills since 2019.

Their Cast Iron drainage systems fit perfectly into the circular economy, as their systems are made of 99% recycled materials and when their products reach the end of life (which is an expected design life of 70 years) – they are 100% recyclable indefinitely without losing any of their properties. Meaning due to the robust nature of Cast Iron, unlike other materials, it can be recycled and made into something new without degrading or losing performance.

If the building is repurposed before their products reach the end of life, their Cast Iron drainage systems are connected using couplings, meaning they can be amended retrospectively. Minimizing waste, and of course, saving money and time on site.
