It was essential to advise on an entrance solution for Marks & Spencer that would fit into their sustainability plan. The door needed to complement other environmental efforts whilst still maintaining a high level of throughput for visitors to the store.
The new build store at M&S Cheshire Oaks is the largest store built by the retailer, and has since been named one of the largest sustainable retail stores in the world. Designed by architects Aukett Fitzroy Robinson to be the most carbon efficient premier M&S store, it takes a holistic approach into key sustainability factors such as water, carbon, biodiversity, the community, materials and zero waste to landfill.
The Boon Edam team were able to advise the client, on the best entrance options to suit their required needs. As with any retail store, it is essential that the internal climate is kept at an optimal level, not only to protect the produce, but to also create a comfortable atmosphere for customers and staff. By choosing to install Boon Edams Duotour revolving doors on the main entrance, a reduction on air infiltration was achieved, which in turn supports all other sustainable efforts within the store.
The Duotour door itself provides the perfect entrance solution for the store as its high capacity ability allows for quick and easy access for visitors, allowing a constant flow of people in and out even at the busiest times of the day, whilst also allowing accessibility for shopping trolleys and wheelchair users. Furthermore, the integrated central sliding doors provide an automatic emergency exit when required.
