Tarkett Sports Flooring Makes an Impact in Coventry

High performance and ease of maintenance made Tarkett’s Omnisports range an ideal choice for the new sports flooring at Centre AT7 in Coventry. Run by Coventry Sports Foundation, a registered charity, the centre is located in the north east of the city and was built to encourage participation in sports amongst the surrounding under-represented and disadvantaged community groups and individuals.

UK Flooring, a nationwide contractor specialising in sports flooring, carried out the 836m2 installation. Preparation works included use of an industrial sit-on machine to remove the existing flooring, which had been down for over 15 years, before priming and latexing the sub-floor. Tarkett’s Omnisports Excel sports vinyl in beech wood effect was then fitted, with solid beech wood skirting to the perimeter. John Harris of UK Flooring commented: “Tarkett sports floors are a great product to work with, being really easy to install and giving a truly professional finish. We have been using them for a number of years now and have always been impressed with the results.”

Fee Smith, Centre AT7 Manager, was delighted with the finished floor: “We are so pleased to have a brand new, high quality sports flooring for our main hall. It will make a huge difference for our customers, and the easy maintenance is a real bonus too.”

Tarkett’s Omnisports Excel is part of the new Omnisports range, which is available in three constructions to accommodate varying performance requirements for all levels of competition. When measured in accordance with EN 14808, Omnisports Excel provides 32% shock absorption when loose-laid or 33% when fully bonded. The surface emboss is identical in all flooring effects whether plain, shades or wood finishes, guaranteeing consistent performance and appearance.

The structure of the flooring includes a unique fibreglass mesh backing for reinforcement and guarantees low internal stress levels within the playing surface. Stress is also evenly distributed for optimal indentation resistance. The polyurethane TopClean XP surface protection provides excellent durability and ease of maintenance, saving time and money on cleaning regimes.

The Omnisports range is also composed of 20-25% recycled materials, and more than 98% of a loose-laid sports floor may be recycled and the sub-base reused without further preparation.

For AT7, UK Flooring also supplied the court markings for badminton, basketball and volleyball. The Omnisports range is well suited to this type of mixed-use sports hall, providing shock resistance to help limit the risk of injury to players, whatever their sport.
