Telford and Wrekin Schools PFI Project
Client: Interserve
Contractor: Tyndale Carpets
Type of works: supply of Stratos carpet tiles and Protect barrier matting.
Desso has supplied over 21,000m2 of floorcoverings to Telford and Wrekin Schools PFI project. Desso Stratos carpet tiles and Protect barrier matting have been installed by Tyndale Carpets on behalf of facilities management company Interserve.
Stratos is a hardwearing and durable nylon tufted loop pile carpet tile with an extremely dense structure and 10,150m2 of Stratos has been installed in corridors and classrooms throughout the facility. High performance characteristics, combined with ease of maintenance mean that Stratos is an ideal product for the education environment, given the volume of footfall at the facility.
In addition, Protect barrier matting has been fitted throughout the building at each main entrance to ensure that the complete flooring installation remains in top condition. 300m2 of Protect ensures that dirt and moisture is whisked away from the feet of pupils, parents, staff and visitors to the building, minimising the risk of soiling and damage to the rest of the flooring.
The Telford and Wrekin Schools PFI project has seen several different community facilities brought together under the Hadley Learning Community Project. This single building is home to a primary school for 420 pupils, a secondary school for 1,200 pupils, a learning facility for 150 children with severe and profound learning difficulties, a 50-place early education and childcare facility, a sports centre and an arts centre, which includes a theatre.
Steve Thompson, Managing Director of Tyndale Carpets (Midlands) explained the design process: The brightest colours have been installed in areas for the younger children while darker colours, inspired by the elements of earth, wind, fire and water were used in the science blocks.
Mark Smith, Project Manager for the Telford and Wrekin Schools PFI project at Interserve said: Partnering with a reliable flooring manufacturer was vital in ensuring that we got the best advice and efficient supply chain solution in order to deliver this element of the project. The Hadley Learning Community Project now has a bright and pleasant atmosphere of which the flooring plays an important role.
Available in 20 carefully selected and contemporary colours, Stratos is a firm favourite for smart interiors. Making an understated yet stylish statement, Desso Stratos lends itself to both business and educational environments with a good choice in subtle Blues, Greens and Grey tones.
