Client: Tesco
Type of Works: Two distinctive glass cube entrances to a flagship supermarket
Two distinctive glass cube entrances to a flagship supermarket, with sliding glass automatic doors by the UKs leading manufacturer of door and window control technology, has helped Tesco win admirers after a ten year struggle to develop in Gerrards Cross.
Glass fabricator Firman Glass knew that only one company could fulfil the aesthetic demands of the glass cube design, and specified GEZE UKs industry-leading bolted-to-glass Slimdrive SL bi-parting automatic doors to provide both functionality and beauty.
Combining easy access, life safety and sustainability, GEZE UK installed four of its Slimdrive SL bi-parting doors, one SL single and one SLT telescopic door to provide two draught-proof lobbies, complete with distinctive ISO aluminium profiles.
The Slimdrive SL and SLT, part of GEZEs unique Slimdrive range, are ideally suited to provide safe and easy access in high traffic areas. Their minimalist design ensures that the operator can be concealed in the façade, giving designers limitless aesthetic potential. Just 7 cm in height, the operators are one of the most compact available on a sliding door, giving a seamless visual effect.
Firman Glass sales manager Jody Hodgson said: Weve worked with GEZE on the Colchester Arts Centre and knew theyd step up to the mark when we needed a dramatic and minimalist installation. Their pre-eminence in bolted-to-glass assembly swung it for us.
Paul Ryan, GEZEs contracts and service manager, added: In todays market, functionality alone wont do. Firman are real artists in glass and for Tesco, the SLs minimalist aesthetics created a stunning effect, while delivering a robust and durable entrance to the store.
