The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer reduces its carbon footprint

Dyson revolutionised the public bathroom with the fast, hygienic and energy efficient Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer. Now they have created a machine that has a reduced manufacturing carbon footprint without compromising performance.

The AB03 Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer shares the same patented technology of the original die-cast aluminium machine but has an outer-casing made from tough, heat resistant polycarbonate-ABS (PC-ABS)* – also found in riot shields, crash helmets and Dyson’s vacuum cleaners.

The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer literally scrapes hands dry in just ten seconds with an unheated sheet of filtered air. It uses up to 80% less energy than warm air hand dryers. And because the air is purified with a hospital grade HEPA filter, it’s hygienic too. The machine is the only hand dryer certified hygienic by NSF international – a not-for-profit organisation committed to public health and safety.

AB03 is made from sturdy stuff and has been stress tested and abused alongside other plastic hand dryers - it passed everything thrown at it (sometimes literally). Dyson created specialist rigs along with real-life testing at Longleat Safari Park to drag, drop and kick AB03 to test its hard shell.

James Dyson says:

“PC-ABS is really tough – so it can withstand big bangs and knocks. We’ve been using it in our vacuum cleaners for a while so we know its strength. We have made the casing hygienic; so it’s an obvious material choice for the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer.”

Following a successful trial of 40 AB03 Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers at Longleat Safari Park, the machines will be available from February 2009 priced £599 +VAT. AB01 Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers will continue to be sold at a revised price of £699 + VAT. All accreditations and endorsements apply to both Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers.
