The Energy Efficient e3-line is introduced

In these days of rising energy prices and developing Part L legislation, Fläkt Woods has created its e3-Line concept, which includes their JM range of fans fitted with EFF1 motors, providing a more energy efficient solution. This platform is already complete and will enable the even higher efficiency rating motors to be introduced in compliance with the International Standard IEC 60034-30. Branded the e3-Line A range, it is available for selection using the on-line fan selection tool.

The e3-Line concept offers products and complete systems that will continue to provide excellent indoor air quality, and save both the environment and running costs. Today’s motor driven HVAC systems are a prime consumer of energy in the UK and fans represent over 20% of the energy consumed.

To address the needs created by part L directive, Fläkt Woods has produced models for calculating the annual energy consumption for individual fans. This helps customers to calculate the energy cost, and consumption of Fläkt Woods’ fans by calculating the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) for any selected fan.

In field tests, replacing a standard 2 pole 18.5kW motors with high efficiency EFF1 motors has shown savings of over £500 per motor per annum can be made. For users this means that payback times can often be measured in months – not years.

The premium rating is only for motors greater than 1.1 kW, but 70% of the installed population is less than 1 kW in size. Fläkt Woods’ range of JM axial fans are wholly suited to the new energy efficient motors, as a standard option from new, or retrofitted when installed.

As well as the new JM e3-Line A range, Fläkt Woods is introducing a mixed flow tube fan that has enhanced efficiency when compared with simple duct fans – and this has been introduced as part of the e3 range, allowing improved airflow and lower energy consumption. Designed for low specific fan power with high pressure the e3-Line M Fan will applicable to various applications.

“This is just the beginning of our ongoing e3-Line programme, the next phases promise further enhancements to the our existing fan portfolio”, comments Andy Cardy, product manager of Fläkt Woods “This will include such things as enhancements to the impellers using the patented tip feature developed for low noise and increased efficiency, and optimisation of guide vane range making our fans ever more energy efficient. Not only will be more efficient solutions be offered – but existing and impending EU and UK regulation and legislation will be addressed”.

As an active member of the Fan Manufacturers Association (FMA), Fläkt Woods is a key design and manufacturing centre involved in developing, supplying and supporting energy efficient fans. The FMA supports these activities with active involvement in a number of work groups that propose actions that is leading to the reduction of energy consumed by fans.

“Fläkt Woods develops and produces components as well as integrated systems, that is why with an ever extending e3-Line portfolio we can combine the components into harmonic overall solutions, saving customers money, and helping the environment at the same time”, concludes Andy Cardy.
