The Lincoln, Manchester

The Lincoln, Manchester

The Lincoln, formerly Brazennose House, is a Grade A office building in the heart of Manchester's Central Business District. The 6-storey commercial property occupies a prominent location on Brazennose Street, fronting Lincoln Square, which links Manchester Town Hall and Albert Square to Deansgate and Spinningfields.

The BREEAM Excellent-rated building, designed by 5Plus Architects, combines the best in contemporary specification and occupant experience. It provides over 100,000 sq. ft of modern office space and amenities, including a rooftop garden terrace, a yoga and wellness suite and cycling facilities for commuters.

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
Façade specialist Topside Group approached Boon Edam to provide a high-quality entrance solution for The Lincoln's spacious double-height reception. The project evolved from an early concept to a detailed design by engaging closely with the client to better understand and respond to their needs and expectations.

One of the key criteria was the height of the entrance. Revolving doors are typically 2400mm to 3400mm in height; however, the specification for The Lincoln called for a door height of 4000mm. Although it is possible to install taller doors, they often impose new technical challenges depending on the size and location of the installation. In this instance, Boon Edam's engineers would require specialist glass handling equipment to lift the glass and carry out the installation safely. As the entry experts, Boon Edam was able to transform the client's vision into a reality and deliver an entrance solution that met the requirements for aesthetics, accessibility, and energy efficiency.

ELEGANT DESIGN, EASY ACCESS, AND ENHANCED SECURITY
Boon Edam's Crystal Tourniket automatic revolving doors were chosen for the project because of their sleek, eye-catching design. The doors installed at the entrance to Lincoln Square are 4 metres high and constructed almost entirely from glass with slim stainless-steel accents to allow as much natural light as possible to flow into the reception area. The specification called for a three-wing configuration to provide better accessibility for occupants and to reliably support high traffic flow during busier periods. These stunning revolving doors are also equipped with instant lockdown, which, when activated, locks the door in its position, preventing anyone from entering or exiting and keeping the building secure.

Detailing was key throughout and is clearly reflected in the quality of materials used, which all echo a luxurious look and feel. Unlike a traditional Crystal Tourniket, the revolving doors at The Lincoln feature an 18mm solid soffit coated in TIGER Drylac's classic golden bronze to create a unique, rich finish.

With a constant flow of visitors in and out of the lobby, the doors play a vital role in maintaining a comfortable climate and pleasant atmosphere for tenants and guests. Revolving doors are renowned for their draught prevention and energy-saving qualities, and for The Lincoln, this provided the perfect solution to meet the building's environmental requirements. In addition, each door is fitted with horsehair brush strips to provide a better and more substantial seal and improve air tightness by up to 30%.

A COMFORTABLE CLIMATE AND PLEASANT ATMOSPHERE
Overall, the installation of the Crystal Tourniket revolving doors at The Lincoln has been a great success. The doors have improved the building's accessibility, enhanced its aesthetic appeal, and contributed to increased energy efficiency. The building management team, occupants and guests have been impressed with the door's functionality and design and have contributed to a more positive and welcoming environment.
