Client: University Campus Suffolk
Architect: RMJM
Approved Contractor: Accurate Roofing
Type of works: supply of 1500m² Bauder Extensive Green Roof with Sedum Blanket
The initiative behind the £20million project was to improve accessibility to tertiary education within Suffolk by the creation of a new Education Quarter in the centre of Ipswich. The Waterfront Building for University Campus Suffolk (UCS) aspires to develop a campus consisting of contemporary, timeless buildings, which are economic in construction, flexible in use, and sustainable in terms of energy efficiency and running cost.
RMJM designed this innovative building to fulfill the complex brief and deliver a landmark statement which would raise the profile of the University and provide a strong image for the promotion of education.
The challenge of the 20° pitch roof meant that hot melt and single ply systems were not appropriate due to technical and health and safety concerns. The Bauder Total Roof System fulfilled the criteria whilst offering flexibility in terms of installation and use. The sedum blanket was secured in place using Bauders bespoke retention stripe, mechanically fixed to prevent wind uplift.
