This new residential development in West Bridgford, close to Trent Bridge, involved the re-design of the former Rushcliffe Civic Centre by Leonard Design Architects, commissioned by Monk Estates & built by JA Ball Ltd.

The design features 121 apartments around the curved façade and 12 luxury penthouses on the top floor. A key element of the design is the arrangement of the corridors running along the rear of the building to afford each flat a view of the river.

To meet the combined requirements of Approved Document B and Approved Document K, Duplus Architectural Systems Ltd selected Fieger Louvre Windows. In total, 44 no. FLW 32 SmoTec smoke vents were supplied, comprising between 4 or 5 operable louvre blades, which provide the 1.5 m2 geometric free area required by The Building Regulations.

Below the opening louvres is a fixed double-glazed panel to maintain natural light levels and provide a barrier.

Supplied in RAL 7034 Yellow Grey matt finish, the vents were manufactured using low-E coated double-glazed elements, consisting of 6mm toughened outside, a 20mm Argon cavity and 6.38mm laminated inside.

The vents were supplied with D+H 24V DC motors, which include an anti-trapping feature as standard

An overall U-value of 1.90 W/m 2 K was achieved, which with a Class 4 - EN 12207 air leakage rating provides a highly energy efficient element of the building envelope.

The FLW 32 SmoTec has also been barrier load tested to BS 6180: 2011
