The Way, Beswick, Manchester

The Way, Beswick, Manchester

Type of works: supply and installation of architectural finishing details, including reveals, sills and channels.

The Way is an ambitious £75 million, 550-home mixed tenure housing regeneration project at Beswick, east Manchester.

The architect wanted to retain an air of individuality in this vast mixed-use development, using materials and colours in a variety of combinations.

JWD created the customised finishing details in powder-coated aluminium for the areas joining ceramic and timber cladding and render.

JWD also manufactured the reveals and sills for the windows and doors, as well as developing a new product range for the project entitled Girderline.

Girderline is a powder-coated aluminium feature channel which has been created to replicate a structural steel member, and, as it has no structural properties, both the weight and the cost are kept to a minimum.

JWD was called on by the main contractor to be the preferred supplier of architectural aluminium throughout the build. JWD was able to adapt to market forces and changing timescales to consistently deliver on time and within budget.
