THOR™ Torrefied Cladding has recently been specified for a new extension on Rotherham Hospital, The Woodlands.

The Woodlands, Rotherham Older People’s Mental Health Inpatient Unit is a £16m new extension to facilities at Rotherham General Hospital. The new building provides essential new accommodation, including three new wards with 42 new beds, all single bedroom ensuites, for older patients. The unit will also house shared clinical therapy services and associated administration facilities. This new facility was opened in April.

THOR™ Torrefied Cladding was an ideal choice for the build, offering a stunning walnut finish which contrasts against the stone, metal and brickwork surroundings to give a wonderful, natural look. THOR™ offers incredible opportunities for architecture, benefitting from the following:

• Pre-stained in clear or solid colour finish - offering unlimited colour options
• 60 year warranty against decay
• 15 year warranty on solid stains
• 3 year warranty on clear stains
• Torrefaction process provides outstanding durability and stability
• Stunning bevel profile creates attractive shadow-line
• Rebated profile makes installation quick and simple

The Woodland project, designed by Devereux Architects, is part of Royal Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust’s modernisation programme for adult and older people’s mental health services in Rotherham. The programme aims to deliver high quality accommodation for service users to promote their mental wellbeing and assist their recovery.
