Client: Truro College
Job: New Information Technology Building
Value: £300,000
Type of works: Installation of windows, doors and curtain walling
Sapa Building Systems has completed a £300,000 installation of windows, doors and curtain walling, on behalf of Truro College, Cornwall, at its new Information Technology Building.
The ecclesiastical-style building, which spans 4,400 square metres across three floors, required windows to the upper floors to be fully reversible and to pivot outside the plane of the window. This allowed for the fitting of internal blinds that could be operated without obstruction from the window.
Ground floor windows were required to be top hung and needed to match as closely as possible the sight lines of the windows on the upper floors. Large areas of curtain walling were incorporated within the design, which created a distinctive visual feature. The chosen finish on all of the windows was etched and silver anodised.
The glass specification required the west and south elevations to be anti-sun Grey to minimise the solar gain within the building.
The exposed location of the site provided distinct challenges for installer, Interwest, and main contractor, Midas Construction, but has resulted in a practical and impressive building overall.
