Innovative applications and uses of Vaillant heat pumps in situations where they haven’t been used before have earned to company two nominations for the HVNews Awards.
Both projects nominated have been installed in social housing apartments, so tenants are benefitting from renewable technologies that reduce their energy bills and reduce the risk of them falling into fuel poverty.
The first project that has been shortlisted is for the Collaboration of the Year category for a project with Derby Homes.
Vaillant project managed the installation of the new energy efficient heating and hot water appliances. This included liaison with the tenants, with Vaillant supplying a show vehicle to demonstrate the aroTHERM heat pumps and explain the benefits of using this technology.
Vaillant also trained Derby Homes staff as installers to reduce the cost of the project as much as possible. The continued support from Vaillant meant that this innovative project could be implemented with the minimum disruption to the tenant’s heating and hot water supply to ensure the process was as unintrusive as possible.
In total, 54 flats were fitted with air source heat pumps on their balconies, where tenants can still enjoy usable space.
The second shortlisted project was in the District Heating Project of the Year category. This project saw Vaillant working with Bromford, a provider of social housing in Solihull.
Vaillant assisted Bromford in the heat loss calculations for each flat and specified three 38kW geoTHERM ground source heat pumps to supply a centralised heat only system.
The innovation for this project was in creating a plant room in a shipping container. This meant the plant room could be installed in the shipping container off-site, and simply plugged into the building’s system once delivered to the site in New Road. Once the container was fully equipped it was simply a matter of delivering to site and connecting the equipment to the building. The tenants now enjoy reduced energy bills and the comfort of using renewable technologies to heat their accommodation.
