Project Overview
Edenbridge Memorial Health Centre is a brand-new building providing a range of services and care to the community. Galliford Try, the main contractor for the build of the health centre, contracted the Platform Lift Company to provide an enclosed fire rated disability lift solution to reach the upper floor of the building.
The access solution
The layout of the new building consisted of two floors; a platform lift was required to provide staff access from the ground floor and reception up to the administration offices located on the first floor. Public access to the first floor wasn’t required as the consultation rooms were located on the ground floor.
The Platform Lift Company provided drawings for a standard white Motala 2000 with optional extras including 60min fire doors with smoke and fire protection. This fulfilled the specification requirements set out by the main contractor.
Installation followed the simple process off creating a shallow pit of 60mm to install the Motala which comes with a self-supporting shaft. The platform lift was installed within a two-day period.
Results
The new build is now Part M compliant with the addition of the Motala 2000 platform lift solution. A GMS auto-dialler has been installed within the platform lift to comply with current lift standards,
Edenbridge Memorial Health Centre, which provides a variety of services including a walk-in minor injury service and outpatient care, opened its doors to the public on 27th November 2023. Staff have received video training on the operation of the platform lift and use it daily to travel from the reception area up the administration offices.
The Platform Lift Company were pleased to receive feedback from Galliford Try’s Site Manager Richard Dowling, who commented: “This was a sleek smooth install. You wouldn’t even know the platform lift engineers were there.”
