Type of works: creation of secure 650,000 sq ft storage enclosure
Industrial storage and partitioning specialist Troax UK Limited has designed a secure wire-mesh storage enclosure for vehicle manufacturer Volkswagens 650,000 sq ftnational parts distribution centre in Dordon, Warwickshire. The enclosure, owned and operated by CEVA Logistics, is used to store high-value vehicle accessories such as radios, CD players and Volkswagen badges.
The project was carried out in conjunction with commercial-space planning specialist SSI Schaefer who, to make the best use of the buildings height and maximise storage space, relocated an existing storage unit on the ground floor to the new custom-built enclosure on a three-tier mezzanine floor level.
Troax used its Caelum wire-mesh partitioning to build the new enclosure which offers an ideal storage solution for this type of facility. Its versatile, modular construction means that storage units can be easily custom-designed to fit the mezzanine level.
The all-welded wire-mesh panelling also offers other important advantages. Its 50 x 50mm mesh offers a high level of security as the apertures are too small for a hand to reach through. The panels are constructed from steel mesh welded to a tubular frame, creating optimum strength between wire and tube.
Double and single padlockable hinged doors were fitted to the enclosure to provide access for authorised warehouse staff.
Commenting on the project, Bob Jane at SSI Schaefer said: Weve built up an excellent working relationship with Troax over the years and rely on their excellent service, technical support and the quality of their products to help us achieve the quality standards we need to meet our clients requirements. Theyre very reliable and keep in touch throughout projects, both large and small, to keep us updated on progress. Overall, we find that their innovative and well-designed products provide good solutions to many of our storage projects.
