Wade Linear Drainage Channels from Alumasc Water Management Solutions (AWMS), have been installed at a new state-of-the-art training facility for a UK Premier League football team.
AFC Bournemouth purchased the site in Canford Magna in 2018, but work was initially delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The build was finally completed in 2024, and the aspirational new development is now being enjoyed by the men’s first team, women’s teams and Academy players.
The impressive new complex includes a range of sports, leisure and healthcare facilities, together with corporate meeting and office space. The stunning contemporary exterior design comes courtesy of AFL Architects, who were tasked with creating a concept that would remain sensitive to the surrounding greenbelt. The build was delivered by main contractor Amiri Construction. Precision detailing and the use of high-quality materials across the entire project have resulted in an innovative facility, ensuring every player gets the best chance of realising their full potential.
AFL Architects specified Wade Linear Drainage Channels from AWMS for internal drainage across most of the site. Wade Linear presented an effective solution for large flat areas requiring drainage through a single outlet, and it complied with the high-quality specification of the overall project.
The Wade technical team was involved from the outset, making regular site visits to assist in fine-tuning the drainage design, which needed to accommodate varying floor build-ups across the site. They worked closely with Amiri Construction, who successfully installed a total of 30 metres of Wade Linear Channels and Point gullies to areas including all shower and changing rooms, the hydrotherapy pool, and the kitchen.
Wade Linear offers a range of stainless steel channels manufactured to BS EN 1433. Various profiles are available with in-built falls, perfect for heavy-duty applications in public and leisure buildings. They offer load classes A15, B125, C250 & D400 depending on the channel type. They are low maintenance, and are easily cleaned by directing a jet of water along the channel towards the outlet.
Wade Floor Gullies are available in a range of robust metals, with fixed or adjustable height options to cover most applications. A fully bespoke service is available from Wade, to cover non-standard projects.
David Brown is Alumasc’s Regional Specification Manager for Wade. He comments:
“AFC Bournemouth’s new training facility represents the most up-to-date modern building techniques; and such an innovative project relies on high-quality products to perform beyond expectation. This particular spec for Wade Linear Channels required a lot of refining, so a close working relationship with the installer was key. As a result, Amiri Construction delivered an excellent installation that will contribute to the essential smooth-running of the facility for years to come.”
