Warehouse Systems helps Rockshop expand business

WSL has completely transformed the warehouse experience at the Rockshop, a company selling rocks and minerals throughout Britain.

Rockshop had grown beyond the space available at Quarmby Mills and were keen to offer a huge cash and carry show room, along with a picking and packing centre for their online sales. A new site was found at Knowle Lane, Meltham Mills.

The first thing that was needed, was a 200-metre square fire rated warehouse mezzanine floor to provide extra space to process, prepare, store and pick the wide range of crystals. This was to sit above the 300-metre square crystal cash and carry showroom.

WSL assisted in the facilitation of this. The expert mezzanine design team provided advice, PDF drawings and plans so he could visualise how this would work best. The steel mezzanine was designed with 2 staircases, one either end, for ease of access and to comply with fire and health and safety regulations. The agreed mezzanine was manufactured within four weeks in their fully equipped Leeds factory.

After delivery was completed, the mezzanine installation team started work immediately. As always, a site foreman was on location throughout the build, to ensure that everything ran smoothly and that all health and safety requirements were adhered to; both for the safety of WSL employees and for any other people in the vicinity of the construction area. The mezzanine was installed within a week, and racking and shelving was constructed around the perimeter of the warehouse.

The result of the work is a large, well fitted store, ready to showcase and sell Rockshop’s fine rocks, fossils and crystals to its trade customers. Above this store is a safe, fire rated mezzanine which is an ideal picking and packing area. This means that, when fully operational, the new facilities should allow a highly efficient operation with web sales and on-site sales both managed easily and efficiently in the one location.
