BASF have provided their BS 8102 Type B watertight concrete system for The Coatbridge amenity housing development, designed by Hypostyle Architects for older residents.
The underground carpark showed a risk of water infiltration, leading to BASF’s involvement in the project.
The main factor to address was the risk of water ingress for the scheme's underground carpark, any new waterproofing solution would have to eliminate the risk of flooding and damage.
BASF watertight concrete solution comprises MasterLife WP 799 as the main integral waterproofing concrete additive, while MasterGlenium 123 provides the plasticizing component of the mix.
The MasterSeal 910 hydro-swelling waterbar with complementary adhering sealant MasterSeal 912 is a one-component, moisture-curing pre-polymer which is reswellable when in contact with water.
This prevents the risk of water ingress through unavoidable construction joints.
The Coatbridge project took full advantage of the watertight concrete solution by utilizing the MasterSeal 925 combi-pack, which includes hydroswelling rings and plugs to waterproof the formwork tie sleeves and tie holes.
The result was a solution that was not only comprehensive but completely fit for purpose.
BASF were able to give customer full support on site both before the three concrete pours and on the days the watertight concrete was placed by contractor Andrew Strain Construction.
