BASF have provided a watertight floor slab solution for Aberfeldy Village, a new urban community in East London.
The location is classified as a flood plain, and the area is therefore considered to be a flood risk.
This meant that the design of both the piling areas and the ground floor slab had to be in accordance with British Standard BS 8102: 2009 to Grade 3 specification.
The challenge of attaining a Grade 3 specification for consulting engineers CampbellReith’s design was reached by using both the BASF Type A (barrier protection) and type B (integral waterproofing) systems in combination to waterproof the ground floor slab of residential facilities.
BASF MasterSeal 754 bonded barrier membrane provided the Type A barrier system, while our MasterLife WP 799 was added to the structural reinforced concrete by concrete producer Express Concrete as a second line of defence in waterproofing protection.
Construction joints are the weak point of any structure, and here the MasterSeal 910/912 hydroswelling waterbar and mastic system was used to create watertight seal.
Using the combined Type A and B systems provided Aberfeldy Village with BBA-approved system with a 15-year warranty.
