Experia is the UK’s leading designer and installer of wireless multi-sensory equipment, specialising in creating tailored sensory environments for a wide variety of needs. They work closely with councils, architects, schools, and planners to develop innovative solutions that benefit users across all sectors.
Experia are excited to have recently partnered with one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks, Wembley Stadium, on a ground-breaking project aimed at improving accessibility for neurodivergent visitors. The installation of two multipurpose immersive sensory rooms was specifically designed to provide a more comfortable and welcoming experience for fans and their families, ensuring everyone can enjoy events at one of the world’s most renowned sports and music venues.
They have been so well received by both fans and professionals that even Clare Rafferty, in an interview with The Guardian, acknowledged the significant benefits these rooms offer stadium visitors with conditions such as ADHD.
Revolutionising Accessibility at Wembley Stadium
This collaboration represents a significant milestone for Experia, as these sensory rooms are the first of their kind in any UK stadium. Wembley is now the first venue in the country to offer two fully equipped sensory spaces, setting a new standard for inclusivity in both sports and entertainment. These rooms blend traditional sensory products with cutting-edge immersive technology, marking the first time such technology has been used at the stadium. This unique approach ensures the highest level of accessibility, offering a safe, relaxing space for neurodivergent fans to enjoy events without feeling overwhelmed.
Gareth Jones, Director of Experia, shared his excitement: “It was a fantastic experience working with the team at Wembley to bring these sensory spaces to life. Wembley is a globally recognised venue, and the addition of these spaces opens events to an even wider audience. The inclusion of sensory rooms is a major step forward in our mission to promote inclusivity in large venues across the country.”
Paving the Way for Inclusive Venues
The introduction of sensory rooms at Wembley highlights the venue’s commitment to accessibility and underscores a growing movement within the sports and entertainment industries. While Wembley is the first music venue in the UK to offer sensory rooms, Experia has also worked with several football clubs—including Liverpool, Everton, Watford, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough—to install similar facilities. These collaborations are part of a broader push to create safe, supportive environments for neurodivergent individuals at high-traffic venues.
Matthew Owen, Wembley Stadium’s Customer Engagement Manager and Lead on Disability Access, expressed his pride in the project: “Opening these spaces at such an iconic venue is a huge milestone for us. We’re committed to being an inclusive stadium, and the addition of these sensory rooms strengthens that commitment. Personally, as someone with Asperger’s Syndrome, I’ve seen first-hand how these spaces can make a real difference. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring these rooms to life, including Experia, Nordoff Robbins, EE, and the Wembley team.”
