Contour Casings has recently installed a number of its PPC Aluminium Column Casings at City of Westminster Colleges’ new flagship teaching development at their Paddington Green Campus.

Completed in January 2011, the seven-storey, £102 Million campus was designed by award winning architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen and facilitates 21st Century learning in an innovative environment.

As part of this major project, which incorporates sustainable and energy efficient features, Contour Casings were charged with designing and installing column casings which allowed for the integration of internal rainwater pipes. The casings were located throughout the property, including in the café and several teaching rooms, and include access panels for servicing and maintenance to the casing interior. The rainwater pipes collect harvested water from the “green roof” resource; this water is then recycled and used around the college for convenience amenities.

Estates Manager, Robin Pellett, said, “There has been no maintenance required on the casings since their installation, this has been particularly useful during the snagging stage of the build. We have been very pleased with the finish, appearance and installation of the product, which ultimately enhances the contemporary decor, as well as providing an integral environmental utility by distributing the harvested rainwater”.

Craig Clarke, Contracts Manager at Contour Casings, said, “We approached this project from a functional perspective, the knowledge and experience we have built up through our history in bespoke design allowed us to seamlessly integrate the rainwater pipe, while additionally incorporating an access panel for fast and effective internal maintenance”.
