Weymouth Community Fire Station

Weymouth Community Fire Station

Architects: Tetris Solutions Ltd., Cheshire.
Main Contractor: Morgan Sindall
System Used: Comar 2, 5P.i (T&T), 6 EFT (SSG) & 7
Location: Weymouth, Dorset.

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems recently completed a new iconic Community Fire Station in Weymouth, Dorset. This facility is multi-functional, offering flexible spaces that can be used in creative ways to best serve the local and wider communities. This includes an IT Suite, Gallery, Meeting Rooms, Studio for Dance, Theatre, Conferences and a Cafeteria.

The project was completed using Comar 2 window walling with Comar 5Pi windows, Comar 6EFT 4 sided SG and Comar 7 Commercial Doors. Comar 5Pi window system uses trademarked Polyamide Insulated (P.i) that provides exceptional thermal performance in a market where energy efficient designs and meeting the demands of the latest building regulations are paramount. From fifteen basic Comar 5Pi profiles, all window configurations, such as casement, top swing reversible, pivot, tilt and turn and sliding can be manufactured.

The architect’s design vision was to create a continuous glass facade to the Fire Station. With this in mind, and to ensure the design brief could be achieved, Comar 6EFT 4sided SG was selected as it offers architects a flexible system, providing a structurally glazed solution, with options for facets, concealed vents and an extensive range of profiles that cater for large structurally glazed panes.

In a busy environment, Comar 7 commercial door sets are a natural choice. Not only are they available in swing, pivot, sliding, auto-sliding and sliding folding, they have been designed specifically for public applications where high traffic solutions are required. These entrance doors were also required to comply with the Disability & Equality Act 2010. All aluminium systems were finished in a White RAL 7012 polyester powder coating to BS6496.

All Comar approved fabricators are required to have the technical expertise to attend pre-site meetings and provide detailing and they liaise closely with the specifiers to provide design advice and detailing which ensures projects run smoothly and meet site deadlines.
