Client: Whittington Hospital
Type of works: supply of CST's MediCall pager system.
The X-Ray department at Whittington Hospital, north London, is using a new paging system to improve patients experience and it works so well that it scored 100% in a patient satisfaction survey the first ever maximum score for the hospital.
"When outpatients come in for X-Rays or scans, they shouldn't have to sit for long periods in the waiting rooms, it causes stress and discomfort," says Recep Suleyman, Imaging Services Manager.
"Our new MediCall system gives outpatients and their companions the freedom to wander while they wait they can visit the cafeteria, shops or other hospital facilities. And we can contact them immediately when we need them."
MediCall is a wireless paging system that is optimised for the hospital environment. Supplied by Call-Systems Technology, the UK paging specialists, it's easy to use, economic to buy, unobtrusive to install and doesn't suffer from reception black spots, even where there are lead-lined walls.
Patients are given a special pager when they arrive and can then leave the waiting area until they are called back. The pagers include three alerts - bleeping, flashing light and vibration - meeting common disability issues.
Recep Suleyman adds: "Patients, visitors, staff, doctors - even the children who come with parents love the system. We're very proud of making the outpatients' experience so good and MediCall has been a huge help. It has also improved productivity by allowing clinical staff to call patients without spending time between the imaging and waiting rooms."
