Wichelstowe, Swindon

Client: Swindon Borough Council and Taylor Woodrow
Type of works: supply of Evolve 120mm half round gutter and 63mm circular downpipe

The Evolve aluminium rainwater system from Alutec has been installed on the Wichelstowe project, formerly named Swindon Front Gardens, in a variety of shades of green.

The Evolve half round profile and circular downpipe were chosen for this installation. The Evolve range also features a Deepflow profile and a new Box profile, along with compatible circular and square downpipe systems.

Alutec Evolve will last longer than alternatives and require less maintenance than cast iron or steel due to aluminium's physical properties. Aluminium is an ideal material for rainwater systems as it is lightweight and incredibly durable. It resists corrosion and will last for more than 50 years.

Wichelstowe is a comprehensively planned, sustainable urban extension for Swindon incorporating up to 4,500 new homes, employment space, a country park, shopping and community facilities for residents and three primary schools.

The project is a joint initiative between Swindon Borough Council and Taylor Woodrow and will help meet Government targets for new housing in the area.

The whole development is expected to be completed by around 2020. Contractors started work on site in May 2006 and primary infrastructure works for the whole site are now well underway. The first new homes at East Wichel were occupied in April 2009.
