Air-filled pillow roof system for Natural History Museum

Air-filled pillow roof system for Natural History Museum

Novum has provided their three layer, ETFE Air Filled Pillow System for the Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum. The architect envisioned a light and airy space surrounding the cocoon structure at the heart of this London landmark structure.

To create a contemporary enclosure, while meeting the client’s light transmission requirements, Novum proposed their three layer, ETFE Air Filled Pillow System with a reflective screen print on the top pillow layer. At each gable end, Novum engineered the interface to allow access for a cleaning gantry.

The museum remained open to the public during installation; a challenge Novum was able to overcome by using rope access methods in lieu of heavy industrial equipment.
