Armstrong Wins Award For ”Outstanding Leadership”

Armstrong Wins Award For ”Outstanding Leadership”

Armstrong World Industries, through Armstrong Ceilings, has added yet another award to its burgeoning trophy cabinet.

The company entered its state-of-the-art Team Valley production facility in Gateshead, England, in the manufacturing category of the Sustain Magazine awards which recognise demonstrable performance and achievement in terms of sustainable manufacturing, including incremental process and supply chain management improvements as well as innovation.

And Armstrong Ceilings came out on top against stiff competition from five other entries in the trade and industry sector including such prestigious brands as British Sugar, Lafarge and Aggregate Industries.

Armstrong’s entry stunned the judges who said: “The winner demonstrates outstanding leadership within its sector in tackling end-of-life issues.”

The award was received by Michelle Nicholl, Sales Support and Marketing Manager for the UK and Ireland, and Rob Gardiner, Technical Sales Manager for the UK, Ireland, AME and Turkey, in front of more than 450 architects, developers, engineers and consultants at Chelsea Football Club on Tuesday 2nd March.

This was the first day of the hugely popular three-day Ecobuild, the world’s biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment, at London’s Earls Court which attracted more than 50,000 delegates. Armstrong Ceilings debuted at the show last year with its End-Of-Life (EOL) recycling scheme and was determined to prove in 2010 that it was no one-hit wonder by showcasing a second “green” scheme – its Off-Cut-Recycling (OCR) initiative.

This involves storing off-cut ceiling tiles from new ceiling installations on site in specially supplied bags that are collected by the company to be recycled into new ceiling tiles. The scheme is believed to have played a major part in Armstrong Ceilings, a member of the UK Green Building Council, winning the Sustain magazine award.
