Ascot Racecourse, New Grandstand

Ascot Racecourse, New Grandstand

Architect: HOK Sport
Sector: Leisure
Client: Ascot Racecourse Limited
Contractor: Laing O'Rourke
Engineer: Buro Happold

London Concrete supplied the new Ascot Grandstand, at the famous racecourse following a complete rebuild. At 350m long and 40m deep the grandstand holds 50,000 spectators, who view the racing from propped cantilever balconies on the front of the building. There are also 300 private boxes.

London Concrete supplied approximately 20,000 m³ of ready mixed concrete from their Heathrow plant, and although other concrete plants were nearer, London Concrete were able to service the job better than any of their competitors.

One of the reasons for this was the flexibility of logistics which enabled London Concrete to utilise vehicles from the rest of their London wide fleet.

The contribution of London Concrete enabled the immovable opening deadline for the racecourse to be met, and the project was brought in by main contractor Laing O’Rourke on time and on budget

The concrete supplied was used in the foundations, and was poured into the concrete frame and formwork.
