Waterproofing commercial projects is what the Wykamol group carry out daily, from hotels to historic castles. Wykamol have been involved in some amazing projects such as below ground projects, including 5 and 6 story deep basements which we have helped to design the waterproofing schemes on.
In this instance, a specialist contractor required help designing the waterproofing for a specialist visitors centre for a historic home in the southeast of the UK.
As this was going to be a Bs8102 designed scheme, dual waterproofing was needed to facilitate the insurance cover on the project. A dual system was needed, so Wykamol designed a scheme incorporating a pre applied membrane underneath the slab with a bonded sheet membrane system, sure proof on the external façade and protection board before back filling commenced.
The engineer on site also insisted that the drainage system could not be sunk into the existing slab as they didn’t want to risk the structural steel being damaged. Instead, we used our specialist insulated spacer to form the rebate for the perimeter channel.
Cavity drain membranes were then installed to finish off the dual scheme. These membranes are to be fully warranted by Wykamol alongside our Pi approved design.
It’s always good being at the early stages of these projects, so we can discuss with the architects and engineers any potential problems that could cause conflict at a later stage.
Also being involved at this stage means that we can attend site at all stages, to check on the progress of the project and discuss the potential issues at the build stage.
