Beverley School in North Yorkshire Installs a Set of Play Canopies

What was the project brief?
Beverley School in Middlesbrough needed a selection of shelters to cover its playing space and keep the children it taught safe from the sun and rain when outdoors. The staff thought that a mixture of multicoloured canopies outside the classrooms for immediate protection, plus some bright waterproof sail shade models on the field, would bring excitement and fun to the grounds. They liked the quality and design of the A&S Landscape products, so they approached them to supply their shelters and help improve their facilities.

What was the canopy solution?
After talking through the options for the project, Beverley School picked out three Motiva Linear™ canopies. This model boasts a myriad of design possibilities, which makes it a great choice for colourful playground shelters that institutions want to use to inspire cheer and creativity. They installed three of these structures – all with multicoloured polycarbonate roofs that would look amazing on both the sunniest and dreariest of days, and stylish Squirrel Grey steelwork. One measured 16000mm x 2500mm while the other two measured 19000mm x 2500mm, and they worked wonderfully right next to the classroom buildings.

Plus, they provided the team with two Maxima StarSail™ canopies, sporting matching Squirrel Grey steelwork for aesthetic unity and Victoria Blue roofs for brightness with a more mature feel. These each had specifications of 5000mm X 5000mm, and they were up to the challenge of offering shade on the institution’s field, thanks to their modern yet efficient construction. Together, the five shelters gave a huge uplift to the feel and functionality of the site.

What was the result of the shelters?
Beverley School thinks that the play canopies are just what its grounds needed to make them more usable and fun. The shade sails look breezy and eye-catching with their blue roofs and they keep harmful UV rays away from the children in the summer. The polycarbonate shelters also offer excellent cover when they’re playing just outside the classrooms and ensure that they can fit getting fresh air into each day, no matter the weather. Their quality was top-notch and their variety created plenty of colour and aesthetic interest which brought the site to life.

About the client
Beverley School describes itself on its website as ‘an all age specialist school for students with a diagnosis of autism and associated learning needs’. It takes on children at nursery level and at other ages, and some stay all the way up to the age of 16. The staff aim to support wellbeing as well as learning through activities like yoga, relaxation and mindfulness. A&S Landscapr thoroughly enjoyed supplying some of our assets to this amazing institution that truly valued them.

Beverley School is located in Middlesbrough, a city with a key regional art gallery and plenty of culture and heritage to enjoy. It hosts a range of independent bars and eateries with excellent artisan drinks and food, and is known for its warmth towards locals and visitors alike. What’s more, there are stunning open spaces and days out for all the family, with attractions like Stewart Park and Teessaurus Park.

Why are A&S Landscape multicoloured canopies so popular?
Colourful shelters have great appeal and results for schools, thanks to the enjoyable atmosphere they create, their customisability, and how they make for an amazing outdoor classroom shelter, early years outdoor canopy and more. They offer polycarbonate sheets in 20 different colours that can be combined to create something to suit any site’s branding or needs. And, unlike other industries that use coloured plastic or acrylic sheeting – or even corrugated panels – they use coloured twin wall polycarbonate sheeting which is often a better product for canopy applications. This means that their clients always receive high-quality shelters from them and, because they are a large importer of this material, they can offer them at affordable prices.
