The Big Debate

The theme of BMA’s Industry Conference 2022 is ‘Sustainability for the Sector’. Most of their speakers during the conference will focus on the environment whether that’s climate change itself, adaptation, or the mental resilience to cope with the challenge we face. But for the ‘Big Debate’ the BMA will be approaching ‘Sustainability for the Sector’ from a different angle.

The channels to market for bathroom manufacturers have been subject to unprecedented disruption in the last decade with consolidation and private equity in merchanting, the emergence of ‘click and collect’ operators and the growth (and demise) of some online retailers. As millennials and Gen Z become a bigger proportion of the consumer market, and crucially, of tradespeople what does this mean for the traditional channels?

In this debate, the BMA have assembled an expert panel to discuss whether manufacturers’ traditional routes are sustainable, and how their channel partners are cementing their long-term future. They'll consider consumer’s changing purchasing habits, future financial models, and the role of the installer. Crucially, they'll ask what does it all means for the manufacturer?

Chair:

Tom Reynolds, Chief Executive, Bathroom Manufacturers Association

Panel:

Mike Rigby, Managing Director, MRA Research
John Newcomb, Chief Executive, Builders Merchants Federation
Dave Ruston, Eureka Research
Jane Blakeborough, Research Director, Trend-Monitor
Diane Wehrle, Retail Analyst, Springboard
