Working for contractor Horticon Ltd, Broxap Street Furniture manufactured a series of wheelie bin containers to help keep Salford clean and tidy.

The Wheelie Bin Housings, 80 in total, have a 240-litre capacity, ensuring plenty of room for the public to deposit their litter.

The Derby Wheelie Bin Containers are for general waste and dog waste and have been positioned at green spaces throughout Salford for the City Council.

They feature both laser cut detail and vinyl graphics, as well as four posting apertures.

A total of five Derby Standard Litter Bins, with a 120-litre capacity, were also delivered as part of the order.

The laser cut detail on the bins stands out with thanks to a white backing plate to complement the pink and white Salford City Council logo.

Broxap Street Furniture has been supplying litter and recycling bins to Salford City Council for more than 12 years.

The purchase of Wheelie Bin Housing is part of a trial aimed at increasing the efficiency of waste management in Salford. As well as the increased capacity, the bins have been fitted with sensors which monitor how full they are.

Instead of council crews having to check every bin, they can target resources at those which need emptying first. The Wheelie Bin Housing also reduces the risks associated with manual handling, as they are emptied mechanically.

Peter Openshaw, Strategic Director Place at Salford City Council, said: “We’ve seen a massive increase in the numbers of people visiting local parks and open spaces and using our litter bins over the last year. Some bins are now being emptied twice daily at ‘hotspots’ because areas have become so popular.”

“The smart bins will help us provide a timely response, which I’m sure the public will appreciate. It will also free up staff time to tackle other environmental issues around the city and will be better for our carbon footprint by reducing journeys.”

Made at a factory in North Staffordshire, the Derby Standard Litter Bins and Wheelie Bin Containers are fabricated from galvanised steel with a black powder coat. This ensures durability and longevity, as Broxap strive to maintain their record of producing the toughest bins on the UK market.
