The Grand Pier in Weston super Mare, Somerset is an iconic theme park destination that offers entertainment including a land train, indoor rides, arcade machines plus candy floss, ice cream and tearoom. There are also a variety of function spaces available to hire, as well as a range of restaurants, bars and cafés. The pier opened in 1904 and has been Listed Grade II since 1983.
Working with Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, Broxap designed, manufactured and installed a new bus and waiting shelter outside the entrance of the Grand Pier. Tasked with creating a design that is modern and sleek, yet still blends with the history-rich surroundings, we created a custom version of their St. John Fisher canopy.
The finished canopy features an arched roof complete with 5mm PETg UV cladding and is constructed from mild steel that has been hot dipped galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and powder coated to high-durability specification. The canopy also features a rainwater gutter, a laminated safety glass windbreak and bulkhead lights to illuminate the area under the shelter at night.
The new canopy provides protection from the elements, making wait times more comfortable for passengers. It has also added a visually appealing element to the surroundings, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the area.
