A brand new school for young people with learning needs has opened with smart new facilities outside as well as inside.

Broxap Street Furniture was chosen to manufacture and supply a wide range of outdoor furniture and other external improvements for education framework contractor ISG Construction Limited.

Chelveston Road School will cater for 145 students and the first intake joined the school in September 2021.

The outdoor areas were specifically designed to meet the needs of current and future pupils who range in age from 11 to 18.

The courtyard environments are intended to have a low level of sensory stimulus to reduce anxiety yet provide sheltered spaces where young people can feel safe and secure.

For one of the two courtyards, Broxap Street Furniture manufactured a Fixed Oval Parasol. The waterproof tensile structure offers an oasis of shade in the summer and shelter from poor weather in the winter.

Six Caerphilly steel and FSC-certified timber seats, and five matching benches, are spaced out across the site along with five Caerphilly Tables.

A total of 19 door barriers help to protect students, staff and visitors going in and out of the building.

And Broxap was also able to provide a collection of car park signage.

Eight mild steel posts and eight cast aluminium signs featuring the disabled parking logo were manufactured for the project, along with 18 Sheffield Cycle Stands.
