Commulite helps London Borough of Hillingdon make energy savings of 804,324 kWh/year and reduce carbon emissions by 205,425 kgs C02 per year

The London Borough of Hillingdon committed to reducing their energy bill and carbon footprint and needed a simple solution to meet their targets.

Having carefully considered their options, they calculated the maximum benefits would come from converting to new low energy LED lighting combined with an intelligent remote monitoring and testing system.

Why did they choose Commulite?

After a long selection process, they concluded that Commulite offered:

● The biggest reduction in C02
● Biggest energy cost saving
● Biggest maintenance cost saving
● Quickest payback on investment

The decision was made to use Commulite’s intelligent lighting systems to upgrade their communal lighting, and at the same time introduce automatic monitoring and emergency light testing with variable and addressable luminaires.

The Commulite system offers the ability to set the right light level in the right place at the right time ensuring maximum energy savings throughout the year.

To date LB Hillingdon have installed nearly 7000 new addressable and programmable luminaires.

The new luminaires are programmed to be off in daylight hours or on 24 hrs a day with various luminaires being dimmed at night, or even switched off or at different light levels.

With calculated savings of:

• Energy savings of 80,4324 kWh/year
• And a reduction of 205,425 kgs of C02e per year

The system comes with a 7-year warranty, and has therefore removed the cost of sourcing, managing and auditing maintenance contractors, as well as reducing the need for maintenance visits to site by engineers in vans and the associated costs.

In addition to these amazing savings Commulite partners with Just One Tree to plant one new tree for every Commulite luminaire installed.

For LB Hillingdon that’s 7000 trees, resulting in offsetting a further 154.000kgs of CO2e per year.

As part of their compliance with the WEEE directive, and a further commitment to the environment, Commulite partners with Lumincom to recycle all of the old luminaires they replace, as well as recycling all Commulite luminaires at the end of their life, ensuring that nothing goes to landfill as a result of their operations. Lumincom mines finite minerals from the components, such as copper, which are then able to be put back into the system and reused.
