Crewe Railway Station Crewe, UK

Project Crewe Railway Station
Size 9,900 ft2 / 920 m2
Architect Network Rail
Type of works: SSM Single layer, tensioned ETFE panels are clamped at their edges by custom aluminum profiles, which attach to the existing timber structure.

The historic Crewe Railway Station, built in 1837, underwent a renovation to replace the original roof glazing system. To achieve lower maintenance costs and greater safety benefits, the client chose to replace the glazing with single layer panels of tensioned ETFE. The station remained open during the renovation, requiring Novum to accelerate installation, while observing very strict safety regulations. To accomplish this, Novum surveyed each roof section, established dimensions, minimized variations and created uniformly sized ETFE panels.

Simplifying the design and eliminating the number of varying components resulted in a speedy installation and a very satisfied client
