A family in Manchester wanted to create a huge space underneath their home, so they called on Wykamol to help with the designing of this project.
A huge amount of space has been created by underpinning and using specialist structural steel.
The project was overseen by a structural engineer, an architect and the team from Wykamol to make sure that the scheme would be watertight at the end of the project.
A dual waterproofing scheme was recommended to place over the new concrete foundation walls.
Hydradry A BBA crystalline cement-based slurry was applied to the walls, followed by a full Type C cavity drain membrane system linked with a drainage system and specialist channels which were gravity fed to the new drainage.
The use of these specialist waterproofing products was carefully monitored for the architect and client, as the homeowner had chosen his own team who had carried out similar projects in London.
The whole scheme had an insurance backed 10 year guarantee.
Wykamol were proud to be involved with such a great scheme, as these sorts of retrofit basements normally only occur in areas like London due to the high cost of the structural works.
However, homeowners and architects are now looking into these kinds of projects across the UK, as the cost of moving house and stamp duty is high.
