New Dulux Trade Scuffshield Matt proved a class act for contractors redecorating seven schools in time for the new start of term.
The product was trialled in locations across Yorkshire following consultation with The Department for Education.
An ideal solution for high-traffic environments, its unique formulation offers scuff performance six times better than standard matt wall paint and nearly three times better than a standard durable matt - meaning walls will stay looking better for longer.
Specially designed to protect walls against scuff marks from everyday items like shoes and bags, its use can also help drive down long-term redecorating costs as it need only be reapplied every eight years.
The work was undertaken by Story Decorating Group, based in Carlisle, Cumbria. Their Contracts Manager Adam Lee comments:
"The new Scuffshield product was so easy to apply. We were on a tight turnaround to get all corridor wall areas repainted in time for the start of term. But we ended up finishing the project a week early, the Scuffshield really did go on so easily. The coverage was first rate and after just two coats it left all the areas looking sharp and bright and with it being a water-based product it had a positive environmental impact as well as not giving off an overpowering odour in enclosed areas."
Adam also put the product to the test, adding:
"I wanted to see if it was up to the job so I deliberately left a load of scuff marks on one wall. They wiped off really easily, leaving a pristine surface. It was really impressive. It’s a great product that really does have the potential to cut down on long-term redecorating costs as you’re not going to have to reapply this as often as a standard matt."
Up to 17 painters worked on the project over a five-week period at Samuel Lister Academy, Bingley, Belle Vue Boys School, Bradford, Carlton Bolling College, Bradford, Harrogate High School, Harrogate, Whitcliffe Mount College, Cleckheaton, All Saints College, Huddersfield and Oakbank School, Keighley.
AkzoNobel Decorative Coatings CDM, Dave Hope, provided expert product support on the project.
He commented:
"At Dulux Trade we’re committed to developing world class products that meet changing demands across all sectors. The education sector is one where new Dulux Trade Scuffshield Matt has the potential to provide significant savings and benefits. Scuffs and common stains can be easily removed by cleaning promptly with a soft cloth and soapy water meaning walls will stay looking better for longer. It’s all too easy for maintenance costs to skyrocket, especially in areas with a high footfall - so we’re delighted to provide a product that has the potential to help keep them down and provide a bright and attractive environment for students."
Adam added:
"We’ve been working alongside Dulux Trade for a long time now. Their commitment to developing new products that incorporate the latest technology is clear. We had no hesitation in trialling new Dulux Trade Scuffshield Matt and the results speak for themselves."
