As part of its long-standing commitment to achieving the highest product quality, Fieger can announce another milestone in its testing programme. Its best-selling FLW 32 has been certified to classification RC2 under EN 1627: 2021-06 - security against unauthorized entry.
The RC2 classification is defined as being resistant against an “occasional burglar using basic burglary tools”. This necessitates the use of type P4A 9.52mm laminated glass in the outer pane.
Security glass is tested & classified on resistance to manual attack or what is termed “through throw resistance”. The lower resistance level classifications range from P1A to P5A, classified by testing to EN 356, which is the European Standard for Glass in Building and includes the testing of security glazing.
The test involves a hard body drop test using a 4.11kg steel sphere (100mm diameter) to represent a blunt instrument such as a hammer attack. To pass the test the ball must not penetrate the glass.
The photograph above shows the after-effects of the test on both a glazed louvre and an insulated aluminium louvre. The testing was carried out by ift (Institut für Fenstertechnik) in Rosenheim, Germany.
