Bailey Streetscene were asked to supply a Play Canopy and Main Entrance Canopies for a new school build on the Isle of Sheppy, Essex. The project was carried out on behalf of Essex County council, via Galliford Try Building Southern. The main challenge was in providing a play canopy that met the aspirations of the clients / architects design (in terms of unusual design and shape) whilst also remaining practical and economical.
The architect had made an outline design for a nice looking Play canopy but had made little provision for rain water disposal. There was also no design specification for the entrance canopy. Bailey Streetscene used their design and manufacturing experience of external structures to come up with original ideas & designs that the meet the customers aspirations and maintained an interesting shape overall. Practical features were also incorporated into the manufacturing details to ensure the canopies worked from an everyday usability point of view, incuding safety as well as provision for rainwater run off.
As a result the client received a set of bespoke canopies that met the design brief, were delivered within the budget constraints and were fit for the purpose and the specific on site conditions. Following on the success of the canopies portion of the project Bailey Streetscene went on to secure street furniture package under a separate contract, in the form of Benches and Bins.
