First supermarket to use slim SCHOTT glass door system for frozen goods

- Termofrost® Slimline increases the visibility of products in freezer cabinets and enables energy savings
- Large supermarket chain equips its stores in Europe with modern glass door solution

The highest premise in the food trade is the visibility of the goods. This is especially true in the frozen food section of supermarkets. For efficient cooling, doors on the refrigerated cabinets are indispensable. To ensure that these do not restrict the field of vision too much, the material and construction of the doors are crucial. SCHOTT Termofrost® Slimline sets new standards. Following the presentation of the new glass door solution at Euroshop 2020, the first major food retailer has now equipped its stores with 7,000 new door systems from SCHOTT.

"The popularity of frozen food has increased significantly, especially in the last year. For food retailers, frozen food departments are therefore currently high on the agenda. They want to improve the shopping experience for their customers, but also the energy costs and CO2 footprint of their business," explains Dietmar Nilles, Sales Manager Food Display at SCHOTT. SCHOTT Termofrost® Slimline helps them in two ways: on the one hand, it promotes sales and, on the other hand, it promotes sustainability in the supermarket. The narrow glass door frames increase the display area of the refrigerated cabinet by 7%, as the visual restriction caused by the frame profiles is reduced by half. In this way, they give customers a clear view of the display and better orientation in the frozen food department. At the same time, 40% less energy is required thanks to the transparent glass door system. This makes it much more efficient than conventional systems, i.e. more sustainable and also more cost-effective to maintain. And what's more, the aesthetic design gives the glass doors a special elegance and ensures an inspiring shopping experience.

"In addition to visibility and orientation on the shelves, the topic of sustainability in the food trade will become increasingly important in the coming years," emphasizes Nilles. The triple-glazed passive doors use so-called low-E panes and warm-edge technology to reduce heat transfer through the glass door into the refrigerated cabinet by 25%. At the same time, a special coating on the inside prevents the glass panes from fogging up.

To adapt to the existing shop design, SCHOTT Termofrost® Slimline can also be configured according to customer requirements. For example, the colours of the frames can be adapted or the door construction can be purchased in a conventional design or with full glazing up to the upper edge of the furniture.
