SOPREMA provided their FLAG range of roof waterproofing products for Kingsdale School, London.
Renowned for its performing arts, music and successful vocational courses, Kingsdale School now boasts a spectacular new Sports Hall and Music School. The Music School features an angular form, helpful for acoustic reverberation, and exploits mass timber with special windows for soundproofing qualities.
Ochre yellow FLAGON PRf was specified for the Music School and link building roofs, and FLAGON EP/RR-F silver TPO membrane was installed on the Sports Hall roof.
FLAG approved roofing contractor, Robseal, installed a Flagflex SAVB vapour barrier onto the structural laminated timber shell and followed this with a mechanically fixed 120mm PUR insulation in 2 x 60mm layers.
FLAGON EP/PR-F single ply TPO membrane was then bonded onto the insulation layer to form a watertight system.
The Sports Hall features a bi-curved roof which provided challenges in terms of installation of the waterproofing layer.
FLAGON’s flexibility and weldability meant that the roofing installer was able to cope easily with the roof geometry. The membrane is adaptable to structural movements, making it an ideal choice for the dramatic undulations of this roof.
FLAG UK were able to provide membranes which matched the colour of the wall cladding. The upper layer of the FLAGON EP/PR-F membrane has very high resistance to weathering and ultraviolet rays, is resistant to wind stress and will not rot or puncture.
The client specified that the buildings should be sustainable – FLAGON EP/PR-F TPO is a non toxic, low maintenance membrane that can be recycled.
