Gateshead College of Further Education

Client: Gateshead College of Further Education
Contractor: Shepherd Construction
Architect: Red Box Design Group
Value: part of a £5 million project
Type of work: supply of hygienic wall claddings to training kitchens and food preparation areas.

Hygienic wall and ceiling manufacturer/installer Advanced Hygienic Contracting has participated in the fit-out of training kitchens and preparation areas within the construction of Gateshead Training College.

Wall finishes to kitchen and prep areas were required that could be quickly and easily installed onto a combination block, be plastered and plaster-boarded, with a metal frame wall finish that would be maintenance-free and fully-sealed, that would meet the class 1 fire certification specified.

With a 7 day window, Advanced had to install 640m2 of Advanced PVC claddings. Each sheet was fully-bonded to plastered walls and held within a silicon-free gasket trim system. Corners were thermoformed on site to ensure a smooth joint-free radius that provides easy cleaning and prevents a build-up of dirt.

The work was completed within the time scale specified and all parameter junctions with vinyl floor coving, door frames, cold room and window architraves were all sealed - creating a Foodsafe maintenance-free impact-resistant working area.

Shepherd Construction’s Project Manager Nigel Moore commented: “Our decision to specify Advanced’s wall cladding system will prove its worth each time the kitchen is in operation. The students may never be aware of the care we’ve taken to ensure their food preparation environment meets or exceeds the most stringent standards of hygiene.’’
