Adprufe® and Preprufe® by GCP helped waterproof new development on the site of the old BBC Television Centre.
Originally built in 1960 the television centre was the headquarters of the BBC until 2013. The new development will include flats, offices, restaurants, and leisure and retail buildings. The site involves a combination of new construction and redevelopment of existing buildings.
Due to a varying water table across the site specific requirements were needed to ensure the elimination of water migration and a complete matrix of fabricated movement joints were required.
A structural waterproofing solution was also needed to protect against water and gas ingress and reduce the movement of the slab which has a movement of 26mm one side to the other.
GCP Applied Technologies recommended Adprufe® 100 and Prefrufe® 300R Plus to provide a robust combination of membrane and watertight concrete solution. Adcor® 500S was used at the construction joints and Serviseal® to protect the expansion joints in the concrete.
Adprufe® 1000 is a liquid admixture that enhances concrete performance by reducing water absorption and drying shrinkage to produce integrally waterproofed concrete.
Preprufe® 300R Plus is a robust HDPE film which is an aggressive pressure-sensitive adhesive and a weather resistant coating. Preprufe®’s Advanced Bond Technology creates a permanent bond to concrete preventing ingress migration of water and ZipLap™ provides an adhesive-to-adhesive bond at the seams.
Serviseal® provides protection for expansion joints in concrete by creating a continuous network of waterstops to prevent the ingress of moisture.
In total around 19,000m2 of Preprufe® and 6,000m3 of watertight concrete enhanced with Adprufe® was used on site.
